My first ever international trip was a cruise to the lower Caribbean last year. Our second stop was Aruba, and while I had no expectations for any of the places we visited, I was so blown away by the raw beauty of the Aruban landscape. The abundance of cacti was astounding, and one species has a sad history to how it came to inhabit the island; it over time became so populous that it formed natural “forests”. It impressed me so much that I determined to one day return and spend more time there. That trip was a true epoch in my life, and this piece is a reminder that we can find treasure in unexpected places!
