Introducing Bird Lovers: A Relationship in Stages!

The cardinal is a favorite in my family, and I absolutely had to have it in this series. Cardinals are quite the family bird in the traditional sense. They both work to build the nest, seeking out a sturdy and lovely home; once the eggs arrive, the male becomes hunter-gatherer and the female becomes nurturer. While it looks like they are kissing in this painting, it is actually how they look when the male brings food to the female. To me, it is the perfect representation of building a home with your spouse and the season when children begin to arrive.

There are many times in the Bible where family beginnings are mentioned, and I think the ultimate example is the family of Jesus. Mary and Joseph had a “rocky start” with the announcement of a heaven-sent pregnancy, but once Joseph accepted the role of earthly father, he did all he needed to care for Mary and her baby-to-be/toddler Jesus. Mary, though young, proved to be a great mother. You can find their family-building story in the first two chapters of Matthew.
