The sweetness of new and blooming love; the color vibrancy of the gray-headed lovebird…this combination was the perfect recipe for this piece. This species of lovebird features males with gray heads and females with a darker tone of all-over green, and they are native to Africa. Lovebirds are aptly named, because they are quite affectionate with each other.

In completing this piece, I thought of Jacob’s pursuit of Rachel in the Bible. The look of admiration in the male made me wonder what about Rachel so enthralled Jacob that he worked for 14 years just to marry her. Yes, she was beautiful, but was there something else that caused him to be so affectionate to her? You can find the full story in Genesis 29, but the phrase that always sticks out to me is in verse twenty, where it essentially says his love was so great, the years seemed like a few days to him. It is quintessential pursuit in action; a man laying down his life for his love!
