In 1 Kings 19 and 2 Kings 2 (KJV), we see the mantle of Elijah in four aspects: a covering, a commissioning, a striking, and a taking up. Elijah covered himself to encounter the Lord. He deputized Elisha by casting the mantle on him. Elisha took up the prophetic call via the mantle upon Elijah’s departure into glory. And both of them struck the waters of the Jordan river with the mantle to pass through it.

When we speak of mantles in our time, we think of it mostly in the lines of commissioning or taking up. But mantles are by nature a covering; in the Spirit, one to be reverenced and respected. They are also weapons in our heavenly artillery; however our mantles are designed for us is how we use it. Our mantles harken to our heavenly identity, and we surrender our natural identity to operate under the covering of the Kingdom.
