A childhood pastime of mine was looking for shapes in clouds. As an adult, I have an even deeper appreciation of the sky as it is, and because it’s one of the ways God speaks to me. Once I became the artist I am now, the sky provided me great instruction and inspiration. I love taking photos of the sky…and now I paint them. I am calling this series #skypic, in honor of the photo tag I use when I share my photos.

This particular piece was named by the Lord during a drive home from somewhere early in the morning. I was praying and thanking Him for that day’s sunrise sky, because it was gorgeous. At this point in time the painting was 95% complete. I felt that the name was exactly how I feel about that kind of sky, so it was perfect!

When clouds are facing the sun, the shadows show behind them because they catch the light and disperse it. I thought of two scriptures when processing that phenomenon in my thoughts:

Numbers 6:25 (NIV): …the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you…

Isaiah 58:8 (NIV): Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

He is before us AND behind us…we are surrounded and protected!
