Salt & Light

For the bulk of 2025, particularly the second half, I had this thought hovering in my spirit…what does it truly mean to be salt and light to the world? Light brightens and radiates; salt seasons and preserves. To truly live by the Word, we have to be light and salt–leading people to Jesus with His light, and seasoning our words to match His truth even when it’s hard. We have to be light in dark places and standard-bearers for righteousness in a world that may not want it…because He calls us all to repentance. We who know the truth must be willing to lay our lives down for the sake of those who don’t yet know Jesus as their Savior. Be salt and light!

Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)–“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Colossians 4:6 (NIV)–Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. 

Psalms 119:130 (NIV)–The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

Proverbs 13:9 (NIV)–The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

Romans 13:12 (NIV)–The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
