Product Description
Alaskan Inspiration: There’s a lot of water that surrounds
Alaska. If you’ve followed me for any
length of time, you know that Alaska has more coastline than the rest of the
United States combined.
We have coastline on the Pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean, the Bering
Sea, Chukchi Sea, and Beaufort Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska.
With almost 34,000 miles of coastline, which includes almost
2,700 islands, it’s safe to say that Alaska loves our water.
Commercial fishing is huge here,
as is sport fishing, filling your freezers, subsistence, sailing, diving (in a
dry suit!), paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, etc. You’ll notice we do all the things y’all do
in the rest of the 49 states. We just do
it in cold water.
Alaskan Interpretation: Our water
is different colors, ranging from dark black to blue, so I decided to use beads
in different shapes, colors, and sizes to represent our Seas of Alaska.
The blue-green recycled bead
bracelet represents the phytoplankton bloom in the Bering Sea, which is
common. Next, I used six Gray Saucer
Natural Wood Beads to represent the silty waters that leave our rivers and flow
into the Pacific Ocean, or the Gulf of Alaska.
Next, I used three different
shapes of Lapis Lazuli, round beads, rice beads, and rectangular beads. You’ll also see faceted brass spacers. I used those to represent the thousands of
islands we have that dot our coastline.
