Prayer Tiles–a series to inspire deeper focus and greater intention with your prayer life. Prayer is communication but also communion with the Father. Whether you need a physical representation of a prayer target, or a reminder of how certain prayers have been answered, this collection is miniature and can adorn a small space or travel with you.

This piece was probably the most fun to paint in this collection, once I nailed down the concept. While inspired by the phrase “put on strength” (paraphrase of Isaiah 52:1), I thought that one of my “people” needed to appear here. The how came next, and because of a memory and something else I recently saw that were somewhat related, I decided to make them a taekwondo slab breaker. Taekwondo is one of the most disciplined sports, and on the slab breaking side it requires great concentration and precision. I think it takes deep intention to focus and fine-tune yourself to be strong, whether physically, mentally, or spiritually. We have to wear it like a uniform of an athlete or the armor of a soldier when the Lord gives it to us, and trust in His strength to make us stronger.

Isaiah 52:1 (NIV)–Awake, awake, Zion, clothe yourself with strength! Put on your garments of splendor, Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)–Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Psalms 31:24 (NIV)–Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV)–Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
