Rufous Hummingbird
$50.00
Rufous Hummingbird is part of our Birds of Alaska
Collection. We love to take the birds,
whether they live in Alaska year-round, spend the summer here, or just migrate
through, and recreate them into bracelets.
Product Description
Alaskan Inspiration: Did you know we have hummingbirds in
Alaska? We do! The Rufous Hummingbird is one of two
hummingbird species that migrate here.
Anna’s Hummingbird is the other.
The little birds have a large migratory area. They travel over 4,000 miles from Alaska in
the summer to over winter in Mexico.
They are extremely territorial, even attacking hummingbirds
larger than themselves.
These little birds are just a hair over 3” long. That’s a little bird who has a huge journey
ahead of them each year.
If you are a bird watcher, you probably already know that
hummingbirds will beat their wings at a rapid rate to hover in place. Rufous hummingbirds have been recorded at up
to 62 wingbeats per minute. Wow!
The oldest recorded Rufous Hummingbird was an astonishing
eight years and eleven months old!
Alaskan Inspiration: The
Rufous Hummingbird Bracelet is based around the Rufous’ shimmering brown wings
and its gorgeous ruby throat. The wings are represented by woodlace stone beads
on either side of red brecciated jasper barbell gemstones. This is a great
bracelet with a fabulous color combination and a bit of whimsy.
