Alaskan inspiration: Sitka must be one of the most popular
places in Alaska. I have several friends
who used to live in Sitka, and they’ve told me more than once that they are
sorry they moved away.
Sitka is located on the west side of Baranof Island and the
south half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific
Ocean, which is part of the Alaska Panhandle.
You can only get to Sitka by air or water.
Do you know what the largest city by area is in the U.S.? It’s Sitka!
That’s four times the size of Rhode Island, by the way.
Sitka is also Alaska’s fourth largest city by population,
and they also have the largest harbor system in Alaska.
Alaskan inspiration: Because Sitka is located on islands, I
decided to take Blue Apatite and Green Recycled Glass beads to represent the
water and the islands. You’ll notice
that the two sets of beads are opposing and that’s because the water surrounds
the islands, and on the other the island sits in the water.
I chose these very groovy Brass Bamboo beads to represent
the beauty of Sitka, the sun shining down, the smiles of its residents, and the
joy that Sitka brings to so many!
