Violet Green Swallow
$50.00
Violet-Green Swallow is part of our Birds of Alaska Collection. We love to take the birds, whether they live in Alaska year-round, spend the summer here, or just migrate through, and recreate them into bracelets.
Product Description
Alaskan Inspiration: The Violet-Green Swallow nests from Alaska to central Mexico. That’s quite a bit of area to cover!
They typically nest in tree cavities and in birdhouses. However, they may also nest in rock crevices of cliffs.
All About Birds had an interesting statistic. “Violet-green Swallows have been recorded flying at 28 miles per hour, a pretty respectable speed considering that the Peregrine Falcon, the fastest bird of prey, averages about 25–35 miles per hour in traveling flight.” Wow!
Alaskans, here’s a great piece of info: they can eat hundreds of mosquitos a day. I need to entice a few dozen to our yard!
They may look like a dark bird at first glance, but once the sunlight hits their feathers, you see their colors pop!
Alaskan Interpretation: I chose the green Malachite chips to represent the green feathers on the tops of an
adult male Violet-Green Swallows’ head and back, and then I added in the purple Amethyst to represent the purple feathers on his wings, followed by the white Howlite to represent the white cheeks and breast of the male. The bracelet is completed with gray, brown, or black leather, your choice.
Fun fact! Did you know male birds of polygamous species are more colorful and, in my opinion, more beautiful than female birds? Why? Because that gives the male an advantage when he’s competing for his mate!
